Drywall Repair

Holes, cracks and water-stained patches cut out, taped, mudded and blended back into the wall.

Doorknob holes, settling cracks and popped screws

Drywall damage in a house usually has a clear cause. A doorknob that swung into the wall leaves a round dent or a hole. Seasonal movement opens hairline cracks over doors and at corners. Screw heads pop when framing dries and shifts. Each one is a small repair if it is looked at before paint peels around it.

The water-stained ceiling patch is different. Cut out and replaced, it looks fine for a while, then the stain returns if the leak is still there. Tell the request line when the stain first showed and whether it grows after rain. In a wet Skagit winter, that detail changes the whole job.

Cut back, tape, mud, sand, texture, prime

A good patch starts by cutting back to sound board, not by smearing compound over a crumbling edge. Small holes get a backing and a patch, while larger ones get a new piece screwed to the framing. Tape goes over the seams, then compound goes on in thin coats, each left to dry before the next.

Sanding comes last, and so does the part people notice: texture. Orange peel, knockdown or smooth, the patch has to match what is already on the wall or it shows in side light. Primer goes on before paint, because bare compound soaks up paint differently from the board around it.

Finding the source before you paint over it

If the patch is hiding a water stain, find where the water came from first. A roof leak, a dripping supply line and a window that sweats can all leave the same brown ring. Fixing the board without fixing the source means doing the job twice. Say so on the request, so the estimate can note what else needs a look.

Paint the whole wall section, corner to corner, rather than dabbing a spot, since fresh paint rarely matches a wall that has aged. Ask for drop cloths and for dust to be kept to one room, because sanded compound travels. Call 360-813-6743 or send a request with a photo of the damage.
